Changing the Collection Stop Date and Response Count During Collection

This article explains how to change the target response count and collection stop date/time while a collection is in progress or paused.

Updated today

📌 Changing the "Collection stop date/time" or "Completed responses" is only available when collecting responses via link (anonymous or personal) or QR code generation, and via email, SMS, or AlimTalk sending.

Changing the response count during collection

While running a collection, you may find that responses are completed faster than expected, or that you need to increase or decrease the planned sample size. There may also be situations where you need to adjust the original target when resuming a paused collection.

In such cases, you can flexibly change the collection goal to improve research efficiency and manage your budget more effectively.

Note that in the Opensurvey consumer panel self-survey service, the target response count cannot be changed while collection is in progress.

How to change the response count during collection

step 1. Choose one of the following 2 paths to navigate to "Collection stop conditions."

  • In the "Collect" tab, click [More actions (⋮) > Change collection stop conditions] for the collection group whose target you want to change.

  • In the "Collect" tab, click on the collection group whose target you want to change, then click [Edit settings] under "Collection stop conditions" on the right side of the screen.

step 2. The fields you need to fill in vary depending on whether screening questions are included. Enter the collection stop date/time and target response count in the applicable fields, then click the [Save] button.

✅ When no screening questions are included

Enter the "Collection stop date/time" and "Completed responses" you want to change.

  • Collection stop date/time: Sets the date on which response collection will automatically end after the survey is sent. Can be set for up to 1 year.

  • Completed responses: Enter the target number of responses.

✅ When screening questions are included

Enter the "Collection stop date/time" and "Completed responses" you want to change, along with "Reserve credit usage."

  • Collection stop date/time: Sets the date on which response collection will automatically end after the survey is sent. Can be set for up to 1 year.

  • Completed responses: Enter the target number of responses. For surveys with screening conditions, responses are counted based on respondents who met the screening conditions and completed the survey in full.

  • Reserve credit usage: Sets the stop condition based on the number of credits used for collection. Credits are deducted at 1 credit per response, regardless of response status (completed, overquota, or screenout). In other words, all survey participations are included in credit usage, regardless of the response outcome.

✅ Important notes when setting Completed responses!

  • Even after collection stops, respondents who have already accessed the survey can continue to the end.

  • If a large number of respondents access simultaneously, responses may be collected beyond the reserved credit limit. Please manage your responses accordingly.

Q. Why do surveys with screening questions require both 'Completed responses' and 'Reserve credit usage'?

A. In surveys with screening questions, 1 credit is used per response regardless of whether the respondent met the screening conditions or completed the survey. As a result, more credits may be consumed than the actual "Completed responses" count. To prevent this, you must also set a maximum credit limit via "Reserve credit usage."

Q. How should I fill in 'Completed responses' and 'Reserve credit usage'?

A. The stricter the screening conditions, the more respondents may be filtered out mid-survey. It is recommended to set the reserve credit count higher than the completed responses target. However, if collection is completed before all reserved credits are used, the remaining reserved credits will automatically revert to available credits.

🧙 You can also change the response count when restarting a paused survey

💡 Usage tip | When restarting a collection that has been paused, you can also change the target response count at the same time. However, if a collection group has been in "Paused" status for 14 days, it will automatically transition to "Closed" status, and a "Closed" survey cannot be restarted.

step 1. In the "Collect" tab, click on the collection group whose target you want to change, then click the [Start collection] button.

step 2. Based on the target response count you want to change, enter the values in the "Completed responses" field, or in both the "Completed responses" and "Reserve credit usage" fields, then click the [Save] button to save.
