How to Set Up Watermarks

Learn how to set up watermarks and apply them to protect your survey content and create a more secure survey environment.

Updated today

📌 Watermark settings are available on the Enterprise plan.

What is the Watermark Setting?

The watermark setting in Dataspace is a feature designed to prevent unauthorized screenshots or external sharing of the survey response screen.

When a watermark is enabled, a unique serial number is displayed on the response screen along with a notice that unauthorized distribution of the survey may result in legal liability.

This naturally makes respondents aware that the survey content is restricted from external sharing, encouraging more careful participation.

💡 Tip | This feature is especially useful for surveys where early exposure of content must be avoided, such as:

  • Surveys evaluating new product or service concepts

  • Research that includes confidential materials such as ad drafts, videos, or design assets

  • Surveys related to pre-launch features or internal strategies

FAQ

Q. When I try to set up a watermark, a plan upgrade prompt appears.

A. Watermarks are a feature available exclusively on the Enterprise plan and can only be configured by users on that plan.

If you're planning to run surveys where security is critical, consider upgrading via the Dataspace Plan/Feature Purchase Inquiry page.

Q. Can respondents be identified through the watermark?

A. Whether respondents can be identified depends on how survey responses are collected.

The serial number shown in the watermark is generated based on the identifier of the survey response link.

Therefore, if responses are collected in the following ways, it may be difficult to identify individual respondents using the watermark alone.

✅ Cases where respondent identification is NOT possible (when all respondents participate through the same link)

  • Collected via a default link or QR code without URL parameters

  • Email / SMS / Notification message delivery with the anonymous collection option enabled

On the other hand, respondent identification may be possible in the following cases.

✅ Cases where respondent identification IS possible

  • Collected using individually generated response links per person

  • Collected using a default link with URL parameters set

  • Email / SMS / Notification message delivery without the anonymous collection option enabled

For surveys where security is critical, it is recommended to use watermarks together with a collection method that enables respondent identification.

However, if a respondent manually removes the watermark before sharing the survey screen externally, identification may be difficult regardless of the collection method.
