Setting Navigation Logic

Guide on the concept of navigation logic, setting methods, application conditions by question type, and usage examples.

Updated today

📌 Navigation logic is available on all plans.

What is Navigation Logic?

Navigation logic is a feature that determines the next question to move to based on the respondent's answer.

According to the content selected by the respondent, the questions to be shown afterward can be set differently for each respondent.

Why should you use Navigation Logic?

1️⃣ Reduce unnecessary question exposure and collect only data that fits the purpose

By letting respondents skip questions that do not apply to them, you can reduce the response burden and lower the possibility of drop-off. By exposing follow-up questions only to respondents who meet the conditions, you can minimize the collection of unnecessary data for analysis.

2️⃣ Make the survey flow more natural

By setting to move to the next question or a termination page according to the respondent's selection context, you can design a seamless survey experience.

How to Set Navigation Logic

step 1. After selecting the question for which you want to set navigation logic, click [Set] to the right of Navigation logic on the right side.

step 2. Select Default navigation destination and Navigation destination based on selected choice according to the desired design flow.

✅ Default navigation destination

In Default navigation destination, you can set where the respondent will move by default when they have completed the response to a question where navigation logic is applied. If there is no separate setting, the respondent moves to the next question according to the question order.

  • Next question: Moves to the question immediately following the question where navigation logic was set.

  • Question within this block: You can select and move to a desired question within the block containing the question where navigation logic was set.

  • Specific block: You can select a block to move to among other blocks where the current question is not included.

  • Termination page: You can set to move directly to a desired termination page among the set termination pages.

✅ Navigation destination based on selected choice

In Navigation destination based on selected choice, you can set the destination to move to differently depending on the choice selected by the respondent in a single-choice question.

  • Do not set (Follows default navigation destination): If there is no additional setting, the respondent moves identically according to the option selected in Default navigation destination.

  • Question within this block: You can select and move to a desired question within the block containing the question where navigation logic was set.

  • Specific block: You can select a block to move to among other blocks where the current question is not included.

  • Termination page: You can set to move directly to a desired termination page among the set termination pages.

💡 Usage tip | Please be careful as some response data may be deleted if you set it to move to a question prior to the question where navigation logic was set. For example, if you set navigation logic on Q3 and then designate the navigation destination as Q1 or Q2, data may not be collected normally as the response flow repeats.

How to Check Navigation Logic Settings

1️⃣ Check the 'Navigation logic' mark

Once the setting is complete, a Navigation logic mark appears, and you can check the navigation logic conditions together in the settings on the right.

2️⃣ Check with preview

You can directly check the set logic by clicking the [Preview] button at the top of the screen.

💡 Usage tip | It is better to check logic within the flow of the entire survey rather than checking a specific question separately. If you proceed with the preview based on the entire flow, you can more accurately check if the questions are naturally connected as intended.

Have you completed all navigation logic settings?

As navigation logic is an important feature in survey design, it may feel somewhat unfamiliar when using it for the first time.
