What is a screening question?
Screening questions are used to select specific respondents to participate in a survey.
By adding screening questions to a screening block, you can manage your survey by distinguishing between those eligible to participate and those who are not.
Screening pass: This occurs when a respondent meets the set screening pass conditions after answering the last question in the screening block. Respondents who pass move to the first block (B1) of the survey.
Screen-out: This occurs when a respondent is terminated at the screening stage because they do not meet the screening pass conditions. After completing the screening block, they are directed to a designated end page, and the survey ends.
Over-quota: This occurs when a respondent meets the screening pass conditions, but the target 'number of completed responses' has already been exceeded. In this case, the survey also ends by directing the respondent to a designated end page after they finish the screening block.
Why should you use screening questions?
1️⃣ Only respondents who fit the survey purpose can participate
Surveys about products or services are meaningful when answered by respondents who have actual experience purchasing or using them.
Respondents without experience often guess or answer randomly because they do not fully understand the questions, which can lead to results that differ from actual customer opinions.
By using screening questions, you can ensure only those with direct experience participate, allowing you to collect realistic data for actual improvements or decision-making.
2️⃣ You can increase the reliability of response data
If irrelevant responses are mixed in, analysis results can be distorted, making it difficult to gain meaningful insights.
Screening questions allow you to not only check for "experience" but also verify it further with follow-up questions.
For example, by adding a question about the most recent time of use or specific usage details only for those who claimed to have experience, you can naturally filter out those who lack experience or are responding insincerely.
How to set up screening questions
1️⃣ Add questions to the screening block
Step 1. Click [+ Screening block] at the bottom of the start page or press the [+] button in the screening questions area on the left to add a screening block.
Step 2. Once the screening block is created, a default question is automatically generated. You can then add up to 9 questions by clicking the [+ Question] button as needed.
Step 3. After adding a question, select the desired question type and enter the content of the question to be used for screening.
2️⃣ Set up the screening logic
Step 1. Click [Edit] in the 'Screening logic' area.
Step 2. Set the respondent conditions in the 'Screening pass conditions'. After answering the last question in the screening block, respondents who pass the condition check will move to the first block (B1).
Step 3. Select the end pages for respondents in the following cases, then click [Confirm].
If the screening pass conditions are not met (Screen-out)
If the screening pass conditions are met, but the target collection count has been exceeded (Over-quota)
💡 Tip | You can create up to 3 end pages. If you want to show different guidance screens to screen-out and over-quota respondents, create an additional end page and specify it in [Change settings] of the screening logic.
