Ad Marking Activation Setting

This article explains the meaning and applicable criteria of the "Ad marking" option required when sending surveys via email or SMS to My Panel, along with legal considerations and configuration instructions.

Updated today

📌 The "Ad marking" setting is available when sending emails or SMS to My Panel to collect responses.

What is "Ad marking activation"?

The "Ad marking" option is a feature that, when creating a new collection group, automatically adds the "(Ad)" label to messages when SMS or email contains promotional information. This option is disabled by default and must be manually enabled by the user when promotional information is included.

Why use "Ad marking activation"?

Under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (the "Network Act"), it is legally required to include the "(Ad)" label in text messages or emails that contain promotional information for commercial purposes.

Promotional information for commercial purposes refers to any information that contains content from which the sender can derive economic benefit, such as sales or advertising.

Accordingly, if the survey itself or the message encouraging survey participation contains promotional information, the "(Ad)" label must be included in the subject line or at the beginning of the message. Failure to comply may result in administrative sanctions such as fines.

Who is required to include ad marking?

The following cases require "Ad marking" to be activated:

  • When surveying product or service preferences or satisfaction levels by comparing with competitors or a control group

  • When providing your company's products or services as rewards for survey participation

  • When messages promoting or selling your company's products are included in the SMS, email, or survey questions

Conversely, the following cases may be exempt from the ad marking requirement:

  • When only conducting internal satisfaction or preference surveys on your own products/services without competitor comparison

  • When providing general rewards unrelated to your company as incentives for survey participation

⚠️ The criteria for determining whether content constitutes promotional information may vary depending on the content and purpose of each individual survey and message. For clearer guidance, please refer to the "Guide to the Network Act for Prevention of Illegal Spam" provided by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).

How to set up "Ad marking activation"

step 1. Create a new collection group via email sending or SMS sending.

step 2. In "Email sending" or "SMS sending," enable the "Ad marking activation" toggle.

Once this setting is applied, the "(Ad)" label will be automatically inserted into the sent message, and an opt-out link will be included as well.

💡 Usage tip | If a respondent uses that link to opt out of receiving messages, that information will be automatically reflected in My Panel data. Even if the same respondent is included in a future send list, they will be automatically excluded from the survey distribution.
