If a Respondent Leaves the Survey, Do They Have to Start Over When Accessing the Survey Link?

This article explains whether responses are saved when a respondent leaves a survey mid-way.

Updated today

If the screen is closed or the page is exited during survey participation, the respondent can resume from where they left off if the following conditions are met.

Response Save and Re-entry Conditions

  • When a respondent leaves, responses are temporarily saved for 3 days from the time they first started answering.

  • The respondent must re-access using the same device and same browser to continue from where they left off.

  • For links with a UID parameter applied, the respondent must access via a link with the same UID — in addition to using the same device and browser — to continue.

  • However, even if conditions are met, responses may not be saved depending on the respondent's internet environment or browser settings.

Notes on Personal Information Questions

  • For surveys containing personal information questions, respondents must re-answer from the personal information question upon re-entry after leaving mid-way.

  • Since personal information is not separately saved until the survey is completed, it is recommended to place personal information questions at the end of the survey.
