Important Notes on Using Pipe-in Choices

Learn the key considerations when using the Pipe-in Choices feature for Choice questions.

Updated yesterday

Pipe-in choices allow you to carry over options selected or not selected by respondents in the current question and use them as options in a subsequent question. However, there are some important points to keep in mind when using the Pipe-in Choices feature.

Key Considerations When Using Pipe-in Choices

① When Changing Answer Types or Options

  • Changing Answer Types: When a pipe-in choices question is created, its answer type (Single, Multiple, Rank order) defaults to that of the source question. For example, if the source question is a multiple-choice question, the pipe-in choices question will also be created as a multiple-choice question. However, you can freely change the answer type if needed.

  • Changing Options: If you add, delete, or modify the options in the source question, the changes will automatically apply to the pipe-in choices question as well.

  • Question Type Cannot Be Changed: Questions created using the Pipe-in Choices feature cannot have their question type changed.

② When Changing Question Order

Pipe-in choices questions cannot be placed before their source question.

③ When Deleting or Hiding Questions

  • Deleting Questions: If the source question is deleted, the associated pipe-in choices question will also be deleted.

  • Hiding Questions: If the source question is hidden, all associated pipe-in choices questions will also be hidden. Similarly, if specific options in the source question are hidden, they will automatically be hidden in the pipe-in choices question as well.
