Creating Multiple-Choice Questions

This guide provides a general overview of how to create multiple-choice questions and the key features available.

What is a multiple-choice question?

It is a question where respondents select one or more choices from a prepared list. It is useful when choice comparison or ratio analysis is needed, as respondents can answer quickly without much deliberation.

Creating Multiple-Choice Questions

1️⃣ Question

This is the area to enter the question text to be shown to respondents.

You can adjust the font size or style using the formatting editor, and enhance the survey's readability by inserting links, tables, images, or videos.

💡 Usage tip | It doesn't necessarily have to be in the form of a 'question.' You can enter instructions that respondents must check into the question field and configure the choices as "Yes, I have confirmed," which allows you to sufficiently guide important details before starting the survey.

2️⃣ Choice

This is the area to enter the choices that respondents will select for the question. You can also adjust the text for choices using the formatting editor.

✅ None choice

This option can be used when there is no item to select among the presented choices. By clicking the [+ None Choice] button to add a 'None' choice, respondents can select 'None' as appropriate for their situation. If the 'None' choice is selected, other choices cannot be selected together.

💡 Usage tip | The 'None' choice is always located at the very end of the choice list, and its order cannot be changed.

✅ Other choice

This option is used when there is no applicable item among the choices and the respondent needs to enter the content directly. You can create an 'Other' choice by clicking the [+ Other Choice] button, and respondents can freely enter content after selecting that choice.

💡 Usage tip | The 'Other' choice is also always located at the very end of the choice list, and its order cannot be changed. However, when used together with the 'None' choice, it is displayed directly above the 'None' choice.

✅ Batch Editing

This feature allows you to enter multiple choices at once. You can quickly configure choices by copying and pasting choice text prepared in advance in Word or Notepad.

💡 Usage tip | If there are numbers or symbols in front of the entered text, selecting 'Remove bullet points' will automatically remove those numbers and symbols before entering the text.

How to change the type of multiple-choice questions

Multiple-choice questions are created as 'Single Choice' by default. If a different response method is needed, please change the selection method at the top of the question.

1️⃣ Single Choice

A method where the respondent can select only one choice.

🧙 Try using it in these cases:

When you want the respondent to select the most representative one among several items.

Ex) “What is the payment method you use most frequently currently?”

2️⃣ Multiple Choice

A method where the respondent can select multiple choices simultaneously. You can set the minimum and maximum number of selectable choices. (e.g., Min 1 ~ Max N)

🧙 Try using it in these cases:

When you want the respondent to select all applicable items.

Ex) “Please select all online shopping malls you have used within the last month.”

3️⃣ Rank Choice

A method where the respondent can select multiple choices by rank. You can set the minimum and maximum values for the number of ranks that can be selected. (e.g., Min Rank 1 ~ Max Rank N)

🧙 Try using it in these cases:

When you want to know the priority of preference or importance among several items.

Ex) “Please select the factors you consider important when purchasing a smartphone in order of priority.”

💡 These features are also available for multiple-choice questions.

Various features can be accessed from the settings on the right of the multiple-choice question.

  • Attribute display logic: A feature that allows you to show or hide some choices only to respondents who satisfy specific conditions. You can present only the necessary choices according to the respondent's previous selections.

  • Choice order randomization: A feature that displays the order of choices included in the question randomly.

  • Choice image: If you want to show images along with choices, you can add images by activating the ‘Choice image’ toggle.

  • Question display logic: You can set the question to be visible only to respondents who meet the set conditions.

  • Skip logic: You can set which question to move to after answering the question according to the conditions.

  • Minimum display time: You can set the minimum number of seconds the question will be exposed on the respondent's screen.

  • Required response: This option sets the question as mandatory, so the respondent must answer it to move to the next.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I want respondents to move to the next question only if they select two choices.

A. After selecting the corresponding multiple-choice question, set the selection method to 'Multiple.' Then, in the settings on the right, specify the 'Number of selectable choices' as Min 2 / Max 2. With this setting, respondents must select exactly two choices to move to the next question.

A. We recommend the following image specifications for smooth use.

  • Supported file formats: JPG, PNG

  • File size: 10MB or less

  • Recommended size: 350 × 196px
