Use Preview to run a final check on your survey before you start collecting responses.
On the screen respondents will actually see, you can check whether questions and choices display correctly on each device, and whether the logic and reference answers you set work as intended. You can also review the survey together with your team by exchanging comments in real time.
1. Select a preview mode
You can switch between [Reviewer mode] and [Respondent mode]. Use each mode in the following situations.
Reviewer mode
When to use: To check whether logic works as intended
Screen: The previous question and the current question appear side by side, along with any questions skipped by logic and the reason they were skipped.
Respondent mode
When to use: To see the screen respondents will actually see
Screen: Only the current question appears, and you can switch between PC, Tablet, and Mobile views.
2. Enter Embedded Data values and check logic
If your survey's logic depends on Embedded Data (custom values, language, etc.), you can enter those values directly in Preview. For example, if the logic is "Show Q5 only to people who chose Store A in the previous survey," enter 'Store A' as the value and check whether Q5 appears.
In Reviewer mode, click [+ Set conditions] and select the values you want to test. The survey then starts from the perspective of a respondent who meets those conditions. To check the conditions you set, click 'Embedded Data conditions' at the top.
Tip | To test with different values, click [Embedded Data conditions] and then [Change conditions]. The survey restarts from the beginning, and the values you entered earlier are kept, so you only need to edit the ones you want to change.
Note | Switching to [Respondent mode] clears all the values you entered.
3. Jump to a selected question
Select a question from the full question list to go straight to it in Preview. Click [Go to first] at any time to return to the survey's start page, so you can move quickly through even long surveys as you review them.
Tip | If display logic or skip logic is set, checking only a specific question may cause the logic not to work correctly. To test logic, answer the survey in order from the beginning.
4. Show question and choice numbers
You can show question numbers such as Q1 and Q2 above each question, along with choice numbers. These numbers don't appear on the respondent's screen, but they're helpful during review. If you've set question or choice randomization, check whether the numbers appear shuffled to confirm that randomization is applied correctly.
5. Share feedback with comments
As you move between questions in Preview, you can see the comments for each question on the right. If you find something to fix during review, write your feedback with [Add a new comment] without leaving the screen. Use [View all comments] to see the status of all comments on the survey at a glance. Click a comment to go to the question it's attached to.
Real-time two-way sync: Comments in the Edit tab and in Preview sync in real time, so a comment written on either screen appears immediately on the other.
@mention notifications: Mention the teammate in charge to notify them of feedback quickly.
Direct links to comments: When you share a URL with [Copy link] on a comment card, the recipient opens Preview and goes directly to the question where that comment is attached.
Check comment resolution status: Filter the comment list by 'Resolved', 'Unresolved', or 'Mentioned me'. Mark reviewed feedback as resolved and track open issues.
Note | Comments can be resolved or reopened by the comment's author or by members with Edit permission or higher.
6. Share a public preview link
Click the [Share] button at the top right to share Preview through a public link. External users without a Dataspace account and members of other teams can preview the survey through the link.
Turn on [Show comments] to let users who access the public link see unresolved comments on the survey.
Note | Only members with 'Full access' to the project can turn [Show comments] on or off. Even with this setting on, public link visitors can only view comments. They can't write comments or replies.
