Setting Hide choice and Attribute display logic

This guide explains the Hide choice and Attribute display logic features that can be used when editing a survey.

Updated yesterday

📌 Hide choice and Attribute display logic features are available on all plans.

Hide choice (Hide from all respondents)

You can select specific choices in multiple-choice questions to hide them from all respondents, and the hidden choices will not be exposed on the response screen.

Why should you use Hide choice?

The Hide choice feature is used to show and control choices for respondents according to the situation while maintaining the survey structure. It is especially useful in the following cases:

1️⃣ For time-series comparison and integrated data analysis

When operating the same survey repeatedly, even if only one choice is changed, the question structure may differ from the previous survey.

If you hide a choice instead of deleting it, that choice will not be displayed on the respondent's screen, but the survey structure remains the same as the previous survey.

This allows data by period to be merged in the same format, enabling stable time-series comparison or integrated analysis.

2️⃣ For choice management suitable for survey operation situations and improving response experience

There are cases where specific choices should not be temporarily exposed due to event termination, policy changes, temporary condition changes, etc.

Using the Hide choice feature allows you to expose only choices that fit the current survey context to respondents, removing unnecessary options and reducing response confusion.

Also, because choices are not deleted, they can be easily reused without additional rework if they become necessary again in the future.

3️⃣ To reduce analysis errors and data post-processing work

Deleting a choice may change the number of items or the response value structure, requiring additional processing at the analysis stage. Utilizing the Hide choice feature allows for survey operation without changing the data structure, preventing analysis errors and minimizing data post-processing work.

How to hide choices

step 1. Please select the multiple-choice question to apply Hide choice for all respondents.

step 2. Click the ‘Hide icon’ on the right side of the choice you want to hide.

step 3. Hidden choices are not displayed to any respondents. If you want to expose the choice again, please click the ‘Unhide icon’.

💡 Usage tip | Even if you hide choices, existing collected response data is not deleted and can be used as is in the ‘Analytics’ feature.

💡 Usage tip | When copying a question or survey, the ‘Hide choice’ setting is also copied as is.

Attribute display logic

Attribute display logic is a feature that allows you to hide or show choices in subsequent questions depending on how the respondent answered in previous questions.

Through this, you can expose only relevant choices to respondents and automatically hide choices that do not fit the survey flow.

Why should you use Attribute display logic?

1️⃣ To improve response experience by exposing only choices suitable for the respondent

Showing the same choices to all respondents may include choices that are not suitable for the situation or cannot be selected for some respondents.

By using Attribute display logic, you can:

  • Automatically hide choices that do not fit the respondent's previous responses

  • Expose only choices necessary for the current respondent, creating a more intuitive and natural response flow.

2️⃣ To reduce response errors and increase data quality

If choices that cannot be logically selected are exposed, incorrect responses or response errors may occur. Utilizing Attribute display logic allows you to:

  • Pre-limit choices that do not meet the response conditions

  • Reduce unnecessary selections

  • Collect more accurate and reliable data.

How to set Attribute display logic

Attribute display logic is set in the following order:

  • Set respondent condition (A): Specify which response selected in the previous question is the target.

  • Select choice exposure method (B): Choose whether to hide or show specific choices to respondents who meet the condition.

  • Select choice to apply (C): Select the specific choice to hide or show.

Setting Method

Setting Result

Hide specific choice (e.g., Choice 1) for respondents who meet A

Choice 1 is hidden only if condition A is satisfied. Choice 1 is exposed as is for respondents who do not satisfy condition A.

Show specific choice (e.g., Choice 1) only to respondents who meet A

Choice 1 is exposed only if condition A is satisfied. Choice 1 is hidden for respondents who do not satisfy condition A. This is the same result as hiding Choice 1 only for respondents who do not satisfy condition A.

If the number of the choice used in the ‘Attribute display logic’ setting is changed (e.g., it was originally Choice 2 but became Choice 3 because a choice was added in front), you must modify the choice number in the ‘Attribute display logic’ settings window for it to work as intended.

💡 Usage tip | If the number of the choice used when setting ‘Attribute display logic’ has changed, please check and modify the corresponding choice number again on the ‘Attribute display logic’ setting screen. If the choice number is not modified, choices may be exposed or hidden differently from the set conditions.

1️⃣ Hide specific choice for respondents who meet A

Suppose there are two questions as follows.

If a respondent answered that they have a low intention to repurchase in Q1 (respondents who selected one of Choice 1, 2, or 3),

You may want to hide only that choice because "I will repurchase the product I am currently using mainly" (Choice 2) among the choices in Q2 is not appropriate based on the question content.

Q1. Do you intend to repurchase product A that you are currently using?

  1. No intention to purchase at all.

  2. No intention to purchase.

  3. Average.

  4. Intend to purchase.

  5. Highly intend to purchase.

Q2. After you have used up product A that you are currently using, how do you plan to select a brand when purchasing the same product next time?

  1. Haven't thought about it yet. / Don't know well.

  2. I will repurchase the product I am currently using mainly. ( → Hide for respondents who selected one of Choice 1-3 in Q1)

  3. I will select after looking for information on various brands before purchasing.

  4. I will compare and select brands when I visit an online mall/offline store.

  5. Other (direct input)

step 1. After selecting the Q2 question on the ‘Edit’ screen, click [Set] for ‘Attribute display logic’ in ‘Settings’ on the right.

step 2. In condition 1, set the case where one of Choice 1, 2, or 3 was selected for the Q1 question as the respondent condition.

step 3. Select ‘Hide the following choices only for people who responded identically to the condition’, then specify Choice 2 as the choice to hide.

step 4. Through ‘Preview’, you can confirm that the choices exposed in Q2 differ depending on the response in Q1.

2️⃣ Show specific choice only to respondents who meet A

Suppose there are three questions as follows. At this time, you may want to expose the choices of question Q3 under the following conditions:

  • Choice 1 (Spouse/Partner): Expose only to respondents who selected Choice 2 (Married) in Q1

  • Choice 2 (Children): Expose only to respondents who selected one of Choice 2-5 in Q2

Q1. Which of the following applies to you?

  • 1) Unmarried

  • 2)Married

  • -99) Other (direct input)

Q2. Do you have children?

  1. No children

  2. Have 1 child

  3. Have 2 children

  4. Have 3 children

  5. Have 4 or more children

Q3. Please select all household members currently living with you.

  • 1) Spouse/Partner → Expose only to respondents who selected ‘Married (Choice 2)’ in Q1

  • 2) Children → Expose only to respondents who selected one of Choice 2-5 in Q2

  • 3) Parents (including spouse's parents)

  • 4) Grandparents (including spouse's grandparents)

  • 5) Brothers/Sisters/Siblings (including spouse's brothers/sisters/siblings)

  • 6) Relatives (cousins, nephews, etc.)

  • 7) Friends/Colleagues/Roommates

  • -99) Other (direct input)

  • -1) Living alone

step 1. After selecting the Q3 question on the ‘Edit’ screen, click [Set] for ‘Attribute display logic’ in ‘Settings’ on the right.

step 2. Click [Add detailed condition] to add 2 conditions (Condition 1, Condition 2), then select each condition as follows.

Condition 1

  • Set respondents who selected Choice 2 in Q1 as the target.

  • Then select ‘Show the following choices only to people who responded identically to the condition’ and specify Choice 1 as the choice to show.

Condition 2

  • Set respondents who selected one of Choice 2-5 in Q2 as the target.

  • Then select ‘Show the following choices only to people who responded identically to the condition’ and specify Choice 2 as the choice to show.

step 3. Through ‘Preview’, you can confirm that the choices exposed in Q3 differ depending on the responses in Q1 and Q2.

💡 These features are also available in the Dataspace edit tab.

✅ Checking the survey flow with Preview

If you want to check if the Hide choice or Attribute display logic settings have been applied correctly, please use the Preview feature at the top right of the editing screen.

By running the Preview and checking the survey from the perspective of an actual respondent, you can verify if the intended choices are correctly exposed or hidden according to the set conditions.

✅ Integrated data analysis with Hide choice

Even if you hide a choice, the choice remains in the question structure, so when you merge response data from different periods, the data structure is maintained identically.

This is very useful for time-series analysis to check changes in response results over time. If you want more detailed analysis, please use the Cross-tab or Result file download feature in the Analytics tab.
