Targeting Setup

This article explains the targeting feature for setting respondent conditions in Panel Self-Survey. Set the desired conditions directly and collect more accurate response data.

Updated today

📌 Targeting setup is provided in Panel Self-Survey using Opensurvey panels and is available on the Professional or Enterprise plan.

What Is Targeting?

Targeting setup is a feature in Panel Self-Survey that specifies respondents to participate in the survey based on criteria such as country, language, gender, age, and place of residence.

Based on the conditions set by the user, respondents who meet those criteria are automatically selected to participate in the survey.

Basic Profile Targeting

This method sets targets based on respondents' demographic characteristics such as country, gender, and age.

Multiple profile conditions can be combined to form the desired respondent group, and it can be selected and used regardless of whether screening questions are included.

✅ Korean Panel Targeting Method

1️⃣ Set respondent conditions.

step 1. When a consumer panel collection group is created in the 'Collect' tab, you can see the 'Targeting' area on the screen and select 'Basic Profile Targeting'.

step 2. Select 'Republic of Korea' as the country and 'Korean' as the language for survey respondents, then set the desired gender, age, and residential area conditions.

💡 Tip | In Panel Self-Survey, you can set respondent conditions through targeting without including separate questions about gender, age, or residential area in the survey questions. This information is automatically provided as 'embedded data' in the analysis stage for convenient use.

2️⃣ Check before setting targeting conditions

If the number of Opensurvey panels matching the targeting conditions falls below the following criteria, survey sampling and response collection may be restricted.

  • Surveys with screening questions: When the number of panels matching the set conditions is fewer than 200

  • Surveys without screening questions: When the number of panels matching the set conditions is fewer than 100

✅ Non-Korean Panel Targeting Method

1️⃣ Set respondent conditions.

step 1. When a consumer panel collection group is created in the 'Collect' tab, you can see the 'Targeting' area on the screen and select 'Basic Profile Targeting'.

step 2. Set the desired country, language, gender, age, and residential area conditions for survey respondents.

💡 Tip | In Panel Self-Survey, you can set respondent conditions through targeting without including separate questions about gender, age, or residential area in the survey questions.

2️⃣ Change the display language

step 1. In overseas panel surveys, the language displayed in the survey must match the selected language.

step 2. For smooth operation, change the 'Display Language' in [Edit > Settings > Common Settings] to the 'Language' set in targeting.

step 3. However, this setting only changes the menus and guidance text displayed on screen; survey questions you have written are not automatically translated. (※ Automatic translation of survey questions is planned for '26.)

3️⃣ Check before setting targeting conditions

If the number of Non-Korean panels matching targeting conditions is fewer than 100, survey sampling and response collection may be restricted.

Respondent Retargeting

Respondent retargeting is a feature that allows you to re-extract respondents who meet specific conditions from those who previously participated in a survey and conduct a follow-up survey.

This feature can only be selected in surveys without screening questions and is only available when the targeting country is 'Republic of Korea'.

✅ Respondent Retargeting Method

step 1. When a consumer panel collection group is created in the 'Collect' tab, you can see the 'Targeting' area on the screen and select 'Respondent Retargeting'.

step 2. Click 'Select a survey' to choose the survey from which you want to re-extract respondents. Note that only surveys with 'Allow All' or 'Allow Edit' access can be selected.

step 3. The collection groups and question list set up in the selected survey are displayed. Select the collection group, questions, and response conditions to match the respondent conditions you want to resurvey. Note that personal information questions cannot be selected.

step 4. You can select one of the following response statuses for the selected conditions:

  • All: All responses including Complete, Overquota, and Screenout

  • Complete: Responses that met the screening conditions set in the selected survey and completed the survey to the end.

  • Overquota: Responses that met the screening conditions but were directed to the closing page without completing the survey due to exceeding the target response count set in the selected survey.

  • Screenout: Responses that did not meet the screening pass conditions and were directed to the closing page without completing the survey.

💡 Tip | Checking 'Exclude this condition (NOT)' allows you to send a survey again to respondents who do NOT match the set conditions.

💡 Tip | When setting multiple conditions, click [Add Condition Set] to add conditions.
