Setting Up Bot Response Monitoring

Learn about 'Bot Response Monitoring', which blocks fraudulent responses from automated programs during surveys.

📌 Bot Response Monitoring settings are available on the Enterprise plan and can be used when collecting responses through an Anonymous link, Personal links, QR code, Email, SMS, or AlimTalk.

What Is 'Bot Response Monitoring'?

Bot Response Monitoring is a feature that detects abnormal access or responses generated by automated programs that may occur during the survey response process.

When conducting an online survey, automated programs or macros — rather than real respondents — may participate in the survey and leave responses.

By using the Bot Response Monitoring feature, you can analyze the likelihood of bot responses based on various behavioral patterns observed during the survey participation process, and review the results in the form of a score. This makes it easy to identify suspected bot responses and manage your data more reliably.

Why Should You Use 'Bot Response Monitoring'?

1️⃣ You can improve the reliability of survey data.

When bot or automated responses are included, survey results can be distorted. By using Bot Response Monitoring, you can quickly identify and clean suspected bot responses, allowing you to analyze based on more reliable data.

2️⃣ You can reduce the time spent reviewing responses individually.

When a large number of responses have been collected, it can take a great deal of time to review all responses individually to find anomalous ones. By using Bot Response Monitoring, you can check bot likelihood scores to efficiently focus your review on suspicious responses.

How to Set Up Bot Response Monitoring

step 1. Create a new collection group via Send the survey from the space (Email · SMS · AlimTalk) or Collect responses through link (Anonymous link · Personal links · QR code).

💡 Usage tip | Bot Response Monitoring settings are not available for panel self-surveys using Opensurvey panels.

step 2. Under Advanced Settings, enable the 'Bot Response Monitoring' toggle. Once the toggle is enabled, the Bot Response Monitoring feature will be applied to the survey.

step 3. During the analysis stage, click 'Load Variables' in the [Responses] tab, then check the bot assessment score via [Metadata > recaptcha score].

💡 Usage tip | Please refer to the following criteria for the bot assessment score.

  • 0.1 or below: Highly likely to be a bot — cleaning is strongly recommended.

  • 0.2 – 0.4: May be a bot, but could also be a real respondent — reviewing the response content together before making a judgment is recommended.

  • 0.5 or above: Likely to be a real respondent.

Bot Response Assessment Criteria

✅ Behavior analysis-based scoring

Bot detection is determined by analyzing various interaction patterns that appear on websites, such as mouse cursor movement, click intervals, and page dwell time.

✅ Automatic detection in the background

Bot detection is performed without requiring respondents to complete a separate task (e.g., image recognition), so detection occurs naturally without affecting the response experience.

✅ Leveraging global signals

The latest bot pattern information collected from Google's global network is incorporated, enabling rapid response to new types of bot attacks.
