📌 Comparative Analysis (Compare with Total · Between-group Comparison) is available on the Professional or Enterprise plan.
What Is Comparative Analysis?
Comparative Analysis goes beyond simply listing cross-tab results as numbers — it helps you verify whether differences between groups are actually meaningful.
Without performing complex statistical calculations yourself, you can use color coding and alphabetical labels to identify at a glance which groups have results that are significantly different from other groups.
Statistical significance testing is automatically performed based on the configured confidence level, taking into account both response rates and standard errors to determine whether differences between groups are meaningful.
💡 Usage tip
If the number of responses per group is fewer than 30, the reliability of the results may be low, and comparative analysis results may not be available.
When interpreting results, it is important to also consider the question type (single response / multiple response), sample composition, and the context of the question.
Why Should You Use the Comparative Analysis Feature?
1️⃣ Discover differences between groups
Looking at overall responses alone can make it seem as though all respondents share similar opinions. However, cross-tab analysis lets you see how responses differ by group — such as gender, age, or occupation — helping you understand the characteristics of specific groups more accurately.
2️⃣ Quickly identify meaningful differences
Comparing results across multiple groups one by one is not easy. The Comparative Analysis feature in cross-tab analysis automatically tests for statistically significant differences, allowing you to discover important insights more quickly.
Compare with Total
"Compare with Total" tests whether the response rate of each group is statistically significantly different from the overall group average, and visualizes the results through color coding.
🔴 Red: A value statistically significantly higher than the overall average
🔵 Blue: A value statistically significantly lower than the overall average
This feature can be used to identify groups that show meaningful differences compared to a single reference point — the overall average — and to establish priorities.
Between-group Comparison
"Between-group Comparison" compares the responses of a selected reference group against other groups within a single analysis criterion, and visually distinguishes cases where a statistically significant difference exists.
When a group (e.g., A) is significantly lower than the reference group (e.g., A): an alphabetical label (e.g., B, C) is displayed in the reference group's (e.g., A's) cell
When a group (e.g., B, C) is significantly higher than the reference group (e.g., A): the other group's (e.g., B, C's) cells are highlighted in red
This feature is useful for clearly understanding relative differences in responses with the reference group as the center, and is helpful for comparing differences between segments, as well as evaluating services/products, concepts, or naming.
