What is a Parameter?
A parameter is an identifier used to pass additional information about respondents along with the survey link.
You can include information in the survey link — such as who the respondent is or what group they belong to — enabling more efficient survey operations and analysis.
Because respondents do not need to enter this information themselves, you can collect the information you need accurately while reducing response burden.
Why use parameters?
Using parameters lets you manage every step from survey distribution to analysis with greater precision.
1️⃣ Send a different survey link to each respondent
Parameters let you include customer numbers, employee IDs, or internal identifiers in the survey link. This automatically distinguishes who responded, eliminating the need to ask respondents to re-enter their name or ID in the survey.
2️⃣ Show different questions to different groups
You can configure different questions to appear based on the parameter value.
For example, Group A can see questions exclusive to Group A, and Group B can see questions exclusive to Group B — delivering a customized survey experience that minimizes irrelevant question exposure.
3️⃣ Analyze pre-collected information alongside survey results
Information passed via parameters is stored together with survey response data and can be used as an additional variable during analysis.
Existing data such as customer tier, region, product category, or usage history can be linked with survey results for more multidimensional analysis.
When do you need parameters?
Parameters are useful when you need to pass respondent identification data along with the survey link to systematically manage survey operations and result analysis.

1) Passing respondent information via the survey link
You can include department names, customer IDs, or regional information as parameters in the survey link. This lets you capture department data for internal employee satisfaction surveys, customer IDs for customer feedback surveys, and regional data for distributor surveys — all before the survey begins.
2) Collecting and managing data without input errors
Since respondents don't have to enter the information themselves, you can collect reliable response data without typos or omissions.
2️⃣ When you need group-level analysis and personalized survey operation
"Even for the same survey, I want to segment results by department, customer type, or region — and show only the relevant questions. 🤔"

Values passed via parameters are stored together with response data, enabling you to analyze employee satisfaction by department, customer tier-based feedback, or regional distributor responses without any extra work.

You can use parameter values as conditions to show questions specific to a department, customer, or region — allowing targeted survey configurations.

1) Referencing parameter values in survey questions
Values passed as parameters can be pulled directly into question text or guidance messages. This allows respondents to see a survey that automatically reflects their own information without having to re-enter anything.
For example, if the survey link contains ?department=Marketing, the question or guidance text can reference that value to display:
"Your current department is Marketing. The questions below are based on your department."
2) Ensuring consistency in survey operations and analysis
Using parameters together with the reference feature ensures that survey responses, screen content, and analysis criteria all operate based on the same information — reducing confusion during operations and improving the accuracy of data interpretation.
How to Register Parameters
1️⃣ Register the parameters (identification information) you want to use.
Step 1. Go to [Main Home > Settings > Features > URL Parameters] from the top menu.
Step 2. Click the [+ Register Parameter] button to register each piece of identification information you want to use. (e.g., Customer ID, Name, Nickname, Region)
For example, suppose you want to automatically incorporate the following information for each respondent in the survey:
Customer ID
Region
Nickname
If you want to insert all three pieces of information automatically based on each respondent, you need to register each as a separate parameter — one parameter per piece of information.

As shown in the table above, if you want to use 3 pieces of information in your survey, you need to register 3 separate parameter keys (UID, residence, nickname).
💡 Tip | Parameter keys can only contain letters, numbers, or underscores (_).
FAQ
Q. How many parameters can I register?
A. Dataspace does not impose a specific limit on the number of parameters. However, for stable response collection, we recommend using a maximum of 10 parameters per survey.
Parameters can also be used via the reference feature in the editor, as well as appended to a basic survey link in the format service=value1&user_id=value2.
Note that the more parameters you add, the longer the survey link becomes. If the link becomes too long, some browsers may collect responses without the parameters depending on the environment.
